A Perfect Day in Napa: How to Spend 24 Hours in Wine Country

Just a short drive from San Fransisco, the rolling vineyard-covered hills of Napa Valley await. This world-renowned wine region needs no introduction, but whether you're a seasoned connoisseur or simply someone who enjoys sipping wine in a stunning setting, Napa Valley is a bucket-list destination.

We kicked off our day with brunch at Lucy Restaurant & Bar - a hearty meal was essential before a full day of wine tasting. Everything impressed us - the ambiance, the food and even the restrooms (yes, you read that right). With bidets and heated seats, let's just say luxury was not overlooked.

If time allows, take a leisurely stroll down Yount Street - this quaint and charming area is filled with unique shops, and a relaxed, welcoming vibe.

We ambitiously fit in four wineries in one day - which, in hindsight, felt a bit rushed as we scrambled to make our last reservation before closing.

Pro tip: Most vineyards require reservations in advance, so plan ahead to secure spots at your must-visit wineries!

1. Del Dotto Estate Winery & Caves

This Venetian-style estate feels like a slice of Italy in Napa Valley. The tour takes you inside the wine caves, where barrels of wine are stored, offering a fascinating look at how aging in French and American oak enhances the flavor.

The experience ends with delicious bites - including pizza! - so you're fueled up and ready for the next winery.

2. Castello di Amorosa

Sipping Italian-style wine in a stunning medieval castle felt like stepping back into the 14th century. This architectural masterpiece offers a range of tasting and tour experiences, from a seated tasting with cheese and charcuterie pairing to a luxury tour that takes you through the armory, torture chamber, chapel and wine library

Whether you're here for the wine, the history, or both, this winery is nothing short of magical.

3. Newton Vineyard

Although the main Newton Vineyard location was temporarily closed during our visit, we were fortunate to enjoy an intimate tasting at an off-site property. This exclusive experience allowed us savor a guided wine tasting paired with thoughtfully selected snacks - all while taking in breathtaking views.

We intentionally planned this stop as a peaceful retreat from the more tourist-heavy wineries, and it didn't disappoint. The setting was charming, the atmosphere relaxed, and the wine exceptional.

As of now, it's unclear if they're still offering visits, so I highly recommend reaching out in advance if you're interested. Either way, their wines are a must-try!

4. Domaine Carneros

This French-inspired chateau is the perfect spot to sip on elegant still and sparkling wines while soaking in the breathtaking views of the rolling vineyards.

Treat yourself to bites and bubbles on the terrace, or, if you're feeling adventurous, order a bottle of bubbly and watch your waiter dramatically pop the cork with a sword - yes, a sword!

Afterward, take a romantic stroll through the gardens to complete your experience.

Final Thoughts

Napa Valley is the perfect destination for a romantic getaway, a girls' trip, or simply a weekend of indulgence. With breathtaking views, expertly crafted wines, and delightful bites to pair, it's an experience that's as scenic as it is unforgettable.

No matter how you choose to visit, Napa is always worth the trip! 🌟🍷
